This paper documents the first type of framework to define a start-up analysis of LDO regulators using either NR filters, feedforward capacitors, or both. The framework includes the impact of fast charge circuitry, and both types of internal precision references of LDO regulators are addressed (voltage references and current references). This paper discusses the non-preferred characteristics of modern LDO regulators, and how these characteristics impact the LDO start-up times. Designers can use this framework to calculate turn-on ramp times and the LDO inrush current, and can assess the output voltage slew rate during turn-on time to confirm that the LDO start-up behavior meets the system requirements.
